Scott Montague vs. Wayne Dragstra

With thirty plus people in the crowd, Leonard Pease at the microphone, and an atmosphere anything but quiet, the stage was set for the CKPDL 2009 final match!

The season ranked first place vs. the season ranked second place finishers squared off at the oche to provide some really entertaining darts!

A couple of 60 shots in the beginning for both quickly turned into some really high scoring as both Wayne and Scott found the triples. 140s, 125s, 100s were thrown consistenly throughout the match. A 180 by Dragstra in the middle of the match brought the crowd to a roar... but Montague continued to keep the crowd as well as he answered soon after with a 166 to set himself up on 32.

But when the match was said and done, Dragstra proved as he has time and time again that at least for the first two years of the CKPDL league, he is the best player! Winning the best of 7 final 4 sets straight, Wayne throwing two 14, three 15 and four more 18 or less dart legs kept Montague off the leaderboard.

Scott was quoted "I did well against Wayne, but I could've given him a better match. Had I of thrown as I did against Clayt, it may have been a different story."

Scott did put some impressive legs on the board for sure, but Wayne proved, unless you bring a 90+ average to the board, you're not going to beat him.

Consistent doubles, and clutch shots made Wayne Dragstra the 2009 CKPDL Champion, extending his unbeaten streak to 37 matches. It also earned him a paid berth into the 2010 PDC Canadian Championship shoot in August of next year.

"We're really excited to know that the best of our league will be representing us next year in the pro shoot.", Bill Myers was quoted. "I don't know if Wayne realizes it, but the way he has been throwing will definitely stand up tall against the pros"

By winning the league Dragstra earned a total of over $600 in prizes and cash money.

Congratulations to Wayne Dragstra and also to the league runner up, Scott Montague... they both played extremely well, and gave us a really entertaining end of the banquet.

Thanks to Leonard Pease for all the help with chalking and especially an excellent job at the mic last night... everyone got into the match and fed off the excitement of the calling.
