Sometimes the smallest of towns can produce the biggest of people. Highgate, a small village just east of Ridgetown in Chatham Kent, is home to 2nd place league finisher Scott Montague and 7th place league finisher, Mike Pease.
Montague big in confidence and perfection brought to the board a gameplan of victory. Pease, big in heart, raw talent and focus, brought a "never say die" attitude to the match. The result was a night of darts for the two resulting surely in a re-match!
Leg one was filled with solid shooting but a struggle at the out for both. Montague finally banged the double one and the nerves subsided. He went on to win the first set by sweeping the next two legs. Pease didn't seem fazed though as he posted two wins in the next 4 legs and stared down a double to tie up set number 2. A near miss on the double 10 by Pease paved the way for Montague to take the second set. Pease posted one more leg by taking the 2nd in the third set but proved to be short as Montague finished the night out with the win.
"It's all about doubles" Pease said later, "Scott hit his doubles, I didn't. That's all it was. I'm not particularily happy with how I played, I know I can play better, but I gave it my all."
Mike Pease, a young up and coming force in the dart world both locally and abroad is always complimentary of his opponents, humble in both victory and defeat. He is definitely a candidate for the Most Sportsman-like player of the league this year.
Montague will continue on his quest of the cup by facing the winner of Clayton Middlebrook / Jeff Kelly match played Tuesday night. |
