As Scott Kelly worked his way up the rankings in the CKPDL this year, all eyes were upon him... especially those of Wayne Dragstra. Dragstra, a complimentary and class individual noted earlier in the season "Scotts darts are on... he has a chance at going really far if he keeps playing like he is". It seems fitting to see the Charing Cross native do battle against the CKPDL defending champion in one of the two semi final matches for the 2009 playoffs.
Maybe it was the determination of Kelly over the past few months, or just that taste of victory that made Dragstra kick his game into high gear, but Wayne brought a combination of high average darts and unfaltering doubles to win the match 3 sets to 0.
Kelly was heard saying "I would have had to shoot a 100 average just to keep up with him... he was on fire!". And that he was... Although stats weren't taken during the match, it was apparent that Dragstra shot at least an 85 to 90 average in most every leg of the nine he won. Kelly unfortunately didn't have many looks at the doubles, but still felt he did his best.
"Scotty got himself this far, played his heart out, and just went up against a monster at the board" league convenor Bill Myers was quoted. "He has nothing to hang his head about.".
Dragstra's steady hand found himself advance for the second time in two years, to the CKPDL finals playing the winner of Clayton Middlebrook and Scott Montague.
Congratulations to both Kelly and Dragstra for giving an entertaining match for all who watched!
