CKPDL - Playoffs - Finals

UPDATED SEPTEMBER 29, 2010

Dragstra and Townley... Best 4 out of 7... another great banquet night!

The stage was set, the banners were up... the Chatham Kent Premier Dart League was gearing up for what could be the match of the year. Winning the A Division with 31 points and a + 116 plus minus, John Townley was slated as the best opponent for the 08 and 09 champion of the CKPDL.

A contest decided after the best of seven sets... each set comprised of the best of five legs... each leg straight in, double out... both players were ready. Townley took the first leg of the first set... very handily. Dragstra answered by taking a 72 out in the second leg. The third and fourth found them both struggling for doubles, but each taking a leg to force the first set rubber match. With John on double eigtht, and Wayne at a higher number, Townley wired and wired again. Eventually Dragstra worked his way to the double, and in a third dart effort, found the double to win the first set. Did this set the stage for Dragstra, or would Townley regain composure to turn it around on the reigning champion?

The second set opened with a similar leg... alot of big numbers scored... quite a few attempts at the double... Wayne sewed up the first with a double 10. John found himself down early in the second and third legs, only to find himself down 2 sets to 0 quite quickly.

A break followed the second set and after returning John threw two 180s within a 10 minute period... but unfortunately watched Dragstra hit 140s and a l80 behind him... securing the third set by 3 legs to 1.

Only fitting to the competition, Townley showed that "enough's enough", when he threw almost a 110 average in the first couple of games in the fourth set. Although John threw so well, great scores by both found each other tied at 1 leg a-piece withn minutes. John was fortunate to get to the double first on the 3 leg... Wayne to see it first on the next... many in the crowd were pulling for John in the 5th. Dragstra showed what he has shown in the past... maintained composure through the match... focused enough to finalize a match that although, appeared to be one sided on the board, was next to even on the score card. With no disrespect to John Townley, Wayne Dragstra did what was he was called upon to continue his legacy as the CKPDL Champion... this year for 2010.

Congratulations to both competitors! It was a great final!

Also, congratulations to the following who received awards this year in various categories.

Thanks to Devin and Ryan, B.J. at the bar and on the floor! Thanks to all those who helped throughout the year for setup and take-down... you all know who you are!

To Bill Myers... from all of us... Nobody really realizes the extra time, money and effort that you have put in to make this an A-1 league... the best dart league in Chatham Kent and one that players want to compete in! From the money you put in to put our last years champ through the PDC tourney, to the trophies... the engraving... to the beers for chalkers etc... goes without saying ...

Bill you run a great league!

Cheers to all this year... next year will come soon... practice up... let's give the Dragster a run!

Charbie
